Recycle your Cell Phones and Save the Gorillas

Cell phones are in hot demand and as the demand increases, so does the impact on gorillas’ habitat in the Congo.

How are gorillas and cell phones linked?

• Cell phones contain a rare ore called coltan used as a semiconductor. This metal is found in Central Africa. Increased mining operations mean habitat loss and increased hunting pressure on gorillas and other wildlife.

• Wildlife Reserves suffer most from mining. Two World Heritage sites, Kahuzi-Biega National Park and Okapi Wildlife Reserve, have suffered the most damage from min-ing.

• Coltan mining has helped fund the on-going war in the region.

• Cell phone popularity over the past five years induced a flood of more than 10,000 il-legal miners into the "protected" parks. Needing food, they have hunted gorillas and elephants to near extinction in these areas.

What can you do to help?

• Recycle Your Old Cell Phone! The US is home to more then 150 million cell phone us-ers (and growing fast). More then 100 million cell phones are thrown away, or stuffed in a drawer, each year. If fewer new phones need to be produced, there will be less impact on gorilla's habitat.

• Turn in your old cell phones to INCOR and we will recycle them with a company that will pay us for them. You’ll be helping the environment and supporting INCOR’s ser-vices to the disabled.

• Place your old cell phones in the specially marked box in INCOR's East Entrance Lobby.

Sheltered Work Activity Program - INCOR is now registered on GoodSearch, as seen in OPRAH Magazine, ABC News, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and Fortune.

Starting immediately INCOR will receive a direct donation every time one of our friends, family, employees, consumers, etc., uses GoodSearch to search the Internet. This is an amazing new opportunity to raise money every day at no cost to us.

GoodSearch is the search engine with a unique social mission. It’s powered by Yahoo, so you get the same great search results. They donate 50% of their advertising revenue to the nonprofits selected by users of the search engine. Now you can make a difference simply by changing the way you search the Internet!

Just go to www.goodsearch.com download their toolbar and enter “Sheltered Work” as the organization you want to support and click on “Verify”. Those two words are all you need – the GoodSearch server will recognize it as INCOR and the next time you search from the GoodSearch toolbar,"Sheltered Work Activity Program - INCOR" will be automatically inserted as "Your Charity." Just 500 of us searching four times a day will raise about $7300 in a year without anyone spending a dime! Please spread the word!
